This week’s blog from the students comes from Carys who has been chosen as the St. Annes’ Carnival Queen this summer.
Hello! My name is Carys Burnett and I am 11 years old. I am in Year 7 at AKS, having left Heyhouses Primary in July. I was really pleased to be selected to represent St. Annes as the Carnival Queen this year and I am looking forward to all of the events. I have taken part in the carnival procession every year since I was at nursery school, and we always meet up with lots of friends and have a great weekend. My retinue consists of some friends, old and new: Daisy, Lucy, Scarlett, Sian, Yasmine and Zoe.
At AKS, I play hockey and netball for the school teams, attending practices at least four times a week and travelling all over the region to compete. I attend the Cookery Club with our amazing catering manager, Mr Shepherd, where we learn how to make lots of different delicious meals in the school kitchen; I also enjoy cooking meals for my family at home. I am a member of the Round Square ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ group, which works closely with the older community and the ‘Just Good Friends’ group, and we host events for senior members of our community.
Out of school I love doing gymnastics and I attend the Fylde Acrobatic Gymnastics Club at the YMCA. I am also a member of Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club. At the weekends, I meet up with my friends – we often meet in cafés for a drink and sometimes go trampoling or to the Island Cinema. I eat out a lot in the restaurants in St. Annes with my family, and I like looking after my dog. Most of all I love to travel and experience lots of different cultures.
For my chosen charity I would like to support Trinity Hospice, because it helps so many terminally ill patients and their families, improving their quality of life at such a difficult time.
