Bringing Sunshine to the Local Community

There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved:

Pavilion Café

We are very much looking forward to seeing you with family and friends on Sunday to celebrate the opening of the Pavilion Café.  The cricket match will begin at 2.00pm and fresh homemade pizza will be served from the AKS pizza oven.  Refreshing drinks are available all afternoon as well as other tasty snacks from the café.  There will be inflatables for the children plus a number of activities organised by our Round Square ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ student group, including; lawn games, strawberry planting and t-shirts for sale for Club Day (see below), with the funds being directed to our community partner ‘Just Good Friends.’  A community group and network to overcome loneliness among older people in our local area.

Our new Environmental Pillar group and the ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ team would like to encourage AKS students and families to grow their own strawberry plants and then share the strawberries with family and friends or a community partner during our Summer Fair on 2nd July.  We have 100 strawberry plants to be potted at the Pavilion Café Cricket Match this Sunday. We will provide all the sustainable resources and equipment and our student leaders will help (younger) children plant their strawberries and label them. The following 5 – 6 weeks we will carefully nurture them and watch them grow, and we hope that they will be ready for preparation and sharing (with our community) by the ‘owner’ of each plant on 2nd July at the Summer Fair.

If you would like to buy a strawberry plant and take part in this environment themed community project then please bring in £1 per plant to either the Junior School or Senior School front office and sign your name/s on the prepared form.  Or you can pay at the ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ stall on Sunday.

Lytham Club Day

As usual, AKS Lytham will be proudly participating in Lytham Club Day on Saturday 24th June in the morning.  The AKS Swing Band will feature on our large lorry and we would like to encourage students, families and friends to join us as part of the procession.  Please save the date!  This year our theme is ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ and we will be joined by a number of our community partners who we work and learn with throughout the school year.  The student team have designed special t-shirts to support the ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ project and these will be on sale this Sunday at the Pavilion cricket match.  If you would like to purchase t-shirts for Club Day or to support this project then please look out for them on Sunday or order them at either school reception.  They are £5 each.

AKS Summer Fair

The Summer Fair and Car Fest is on Sunday 2nd July, 1.00pm to 4.00pm, on the front lawns.  There will also be a large focus on cycling, and families are welcome to bring their bikes.  There will be a number of courses to attempt and a bike ‘doctor’ if you have any questions or bike-related issues.  The AKS students are also designing a remote control car track and families are welcome to bring their vehicles to race and take-on the challenge.  The usual fun games, stalls and activities will also be present, as well as delicious food and drink from AKS catering and the PTA.  Our community partners will also be joining us and we look forward to sharing our fresh strawberries with our friends and celebrating the end of our ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ project and the successful beginnings of our Round Square development.

If you have any questions or would like to get involved with the ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ project or any other Round Square initiatives at AKS then please do contact me at any time.
