This morning, I was one of six Year 8 students who virtually flew to UWCSEA Singapore to take part in a Round Square pre-conference entitled ‘The Future of our Cities’.
From the offset, it became clear that our task would be to produce an infographic on what the town of Blackpool may look like in 50 years’ time to present at the actual 3-hour conference, that will take place next Tuesday.
We now have a week to come up with a plan that we will present to over 200 delegates. After our task was explained, we then went into breakout rooms, this was an opportunity to get to know others through a Baraza style session which was student-led by a student from UWCSEA. This allowed us to get to know individuals from all over the World. We then went on to play a Kahoot quiz to learn more about Singapore, where our hosts are from. Then we had a more thought-provoking discussion with regards to the future of our towns and cities and what we might wish to explore in our infographic, things like sustainability, technology and politics.
We look forward to working on our idea this week and presenting it next Tuesday. We will also make sure we post it on social media so the whole of the AKS Community can see our thoughts … and if as a community we do not like what we see … it might be time to take action!
